My Last First Week of Undergrad!

Last First Day Picture! |
I’ve never taken six courses at once while attending Loyola. I kind of thought that my first week would be hectic because of the six courses, but honestly it was the total opposite. I have a combination of communication and marketing courses this semester. The communication courses consist of Sports Writing with Professor Noah Frank, Travel Reporting with Dr.Amy Becker, and Senior Capstone in Digital Media with Dr.Jonathan Lillie. My marketing courses include Consumer Behavior with Dr.Rebecca Trump and Fundamentals of Advertising and Public Relations with Professor Andrew Shumway. I am also taking Arabic 102 with Dr.Inas Hassan as an elective.
A few things have changed since my freshman year at Loyola University Maryland. A major change I’ve seen is a new president. Terry Sawyer become is the 25th president of Loyola on January 1, 2022 which is something we don’t get to witness often. Another thing I’ve noticed is that there are more people of color in each incoming freshman class. As a black woman at a predominately white institution, it feels good knowing that my university is becoming more diverse. I have also grown as a person since my freshman year at Loyola. I remember my freshman year at Loyola. I was very shy and didn’t have many friends. I don’t even think I joined any clubs. I just went to class, my dorm, and the dining halls to get food. I didn’t even like my major at the time, and I had no idea what career I wanted to pursue. It wasn’t until my sophomore year that I started to get involved in student organizations such as Loyola SuperFans and Student Leadership Corps (SLC). I also became the manager of the Women’s basketball team. Being involved on campus played a key role in navigating personal development, building relationships, and my career.
When I first arrived to Loyola University Maryland as a freshman in Fall 2021. I was nervous and excited at the same time. Nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. Excited because I would get the chance to return to a somewhat normal life after enduring almost two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. A pandemic which stripped me of my senior year of high school. I didn’t experience any senior activities like a senior trip or a senior prom, not even a yearbook. As a senior at Loyola, I plan to do everything that I couldn’t do during my senior in high school. I plan to take part in all of the senior activities, take more pictures and videos with my friends, and make the most of my final year.
